Eric Puchner - Dream State

Eric Puchner: Dream State – a moving literary novel about love, choice and the long shadow of one summer

Dream State begins with Cece arriving early at her future in-laws’ lake house in Salish, Montana, ready to finish planning her wedding to Charlie, a promising cardiac anaesthesiologist. Everything seems to point toward a bright and carefully arranged future — until Charlie asks his college friend Garrett to officiate the ceremony.

Garrett appears to be the worst possible choice: a depressed baggage handler who does not believe in marriage and seems entirely unsuited to the role. Yet as Cece spends more time with him, his guarded exterior begins to soften, and she finds herself questioning the life she thought she wanted. One impulsive decision changes the course of all three lives, sending ripples across decades, families and generations.
