Jo Nesbo - Wolf Hour

A small-time criminal is shot dead on a Minneapolis street. The carefully planned attack appears to be the work of a lone sniper, but the killer vanishes before the police can identify a motive or establish who might be targeted next.

When another shooting follows, maverick homicide detective Bob Oz is brought into the investigation. Difficult, unpredictable and burdened by personal problems, Oz is not an obvious choice for such a sensitive case. His instinct for recognising patterns, however, suggests that the murders are more than a series of calculated executions.

As the investigation progresses, the distinction between hunter and hunted becomes increasingly uncertain. The shooter appears to have a story to tell and may even want to be caught—but only after completing a carefully constructed plan. To stop him, Oz must understand what connects the victims and confront the anger and secrets driving the violence.

Set against the social and political tensions of contemporary Minneapolis, Wolf Hour combines a psychological investigation with a dark portrait of revenge, isolation and obsession. This standalone thriller is suitable for readers who enjoy morally complex detectives, atmospheric crime fiction and mysteries built around an elusive adversary.
