Phil Knight - Shoe Dog

Phil Knight: Shoe Dog – the story behind Nike, entrepreneurship and the power of a shared mission

Shoe Dog is Phil Knight’s remarkable memoir about the creation of Nike, one of the most recognisable brands in the world. In 1962, fresh out of business school, Knight borrowed $50 from his father and began importing affordable, high-quality running shoes from Japan. He sold them from the boot of his Plymouth, earning $8,000 in his first year.

What followed was far from a smooth success story. Knight writes openly about the doubts, risks, financial pressures, legal battles, mistakes and near failures that shaped Nike’s early years. At the heart of the memoir is not only the rise of a company, but the story of the people who built it together — a small, determined group united by belief, loyalty and a deep love of sport.

What is the book about?
The book tells the story of how Phil Knight founded Nike and helped turn a small start-up into a global business. It follows his early struggles, key decisions, personal sacrifices and the team of partners and employees who helped create the company behind the famous swoosh.
