Richard Osman - We Chase Shadows

At sunrise in the Italian hills, a body is found on the steps of a secluded villa. A threatening message left with the victim appears to be signed by a mysterious man, but the villa’s owner has reasons for avoiding the police. For Amy, Rosie and Steve, the case offers an opportunity to put their new investigative agency to the test.

What initially seems like a straightforward search soon becomes an increasingly complicated puzzle. The trail takes the mismatched detectives from Italy to Barcelona and Palm Springs, eventually reaching Steve’s quiet village pub. Each new location brings fresh suspects, hidden motives and further evidence that nearly everyone involved is concealing something.

Amy’s professional instincts, Rosie’s confidence and connections, and Steve’s patient eye for detail give the team three very different ways of approaching the mystery. Yet the killer remains one step ahead, turning the investigation into a dangerous international pursuit.

Combining an intricate murder case with dry humour, lively dialogue and a globe-spanning adventure, We Chase Shadows is suitable for readers who enjoy character-driven crime fiction with warmth and wit. Although it follows We Solve Murders, the novel presents the returning trio with a new central investigation.
